Week 3 Journal Entry
This week I have learned a lot about personal integrity in the business world. The group presentation this past Monday showed the class a video about a man that was asked by his potential employer to lie about a business order. His initial reaction was one of shock, realizing that what he was being asked to do was wrong. The man in charge that asked him to make the false order saw that he was struggling with the idea, and offered for him to think about it that evening and to report the next day if he was on board. The man who was seeking to be hired went home that night to talk it over with his wife. He and she both knew that they needed this job, but ultimately the man decided to choose his integrity over the job that put that at risk. He returned to the office the next morning and told the employer that he knew it was wrong of him and that he wouldn't follow through with it. The employer stood up and shook his hand, congratulating him on his decision to be honest. He went on to explain that he had been searching for a man with strong integrity for the position. He offered him the job and all was well.
I loved that video because it goes to show how tempting it is to make dishonest business decisions, but that integrity will pay off in the end. We need to be trustworthy in our dealings with our fellowmen in every aspect of our lives, not just the business world.
